He participated to several PRIN projects, to the INFM Advanced Research Project “ISADORA”, to the STRP European Project “Nanostructures for Chemical Sensors – NanoChemSens” coordinated by K. Schierbaum (Düsseldorf). He coordinates the characterization research unit within the University of Padova Strategic Research Project “HELIOS” (Highly Efficient Light Interactions with Organized molecular Systems, 2009-2012) and vice-coordinates the Padova Research Unit within the PRIN 2010/11 Project “DESCARTES”. He co-authors over 80 peer-reviewed papers in ISI international scientific journals. He is peer-reviewer for ACS Nano, The Journal of the American Chemical Society, Nature Chemistry, Physical Review B, Physical Review Letters, The Journal of Physical Chemistry, Surface Science, ecc.

Experimental and computational skills: epitaxial growth and molecular beam deposition in ultra-high vacuum (UHV); UHV characterization techniques: electron and photoelectron spectroscopies and diffraction (including the theoretical simulations of photoelectron diffraction patterns), scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM). UHV systems design. He started up the STM Lab at the Department of Chemical Sciences and holds its scientific responsibility.

Main acknowledgements for research activity: ENICHEM thesis prize (1993); “Ugo Croatto” Prize for the results achieved during the PhD at the University of Padua (1996); Young Scientist Award at the Winter Workshop on Photoelectron Diffraction, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA (1996); National Prize of the Inorganic Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society for the best PhD thesis (1997); “Alceste Mion” Prize of the University of Padova (2001).

Institutional activity: Scientific Coordinator of the Chemistry Library "Cesare Pecile"; Member of the Executive Council of the PhD Course in Molecular Sciences, Member of the Resources Commission of the Department of Chemical Sciences, Member of the Padova University Press Editorial Board. President of the Study Board of Chemistry (2013-2017); Coordinator of the Teaching Commission of the Department of Chemical Sciences (2015-2017).
